Job summary

The Red Hat Quality Engineering team is looking for a Quality Engineer to join us in Brno, Czech republic. In this role, you’ll analyze, report, and track defects in system applications and daemons. You will be part of a team that serves as the last gate through which code must pass on its way to public release, and performs function, integration, and performance testing on various command line tools in Linux distributions. You will focus on improving GNU and Linux servers, stabilizing the newest features, and providing a top-notch experience for millions of active users. As a Quality Engineer, you'll also participate in the verification of changes in the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) core operating system and work closely with operating system development and the Security team to perform function, regression, and system testing, and extend test automation (Bash, Python). In between the testing peaks, you will contribute to test scripts, developing and enhancing our test tools, improving our processes, and working on public open source projects.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Learn our testing process and become familiar with internal tools like bug tracking systems, automation frameworks, etc.

  • Use your Linux knowledge and skills to design and carry out tests

  • Identify issues that might affect performance, stability, and interoperability

  • Work with developers to investigate issues

  • Propose solutions to issues and develop patches

  • Get involved in open source projects and communities


Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience

  • Practical experience as a Linux administrator or power user with any distribution

  • Scripting skills in Bash; other languages like Python, Perl, C, or Ruby are a plus

  • Intermediate English written and verbal communication skills

  • Working experience with Daemons technologies like systemd, Samba, Bind, firewalld, MySQL, or Tuned is an advantage
