Eaton’s Corporate Research and Technology opened a position for a Senior Power System Engineer

looking for challenging career in DC power distribution, smart grids, and microgrids topics.

Job description:

Research and technology development work will cover development of new strategies of control and protection in DC distribution systems, architecture of smart and microgrids ensuring it stability and reliability by communication and coordination.

This position enables the person hired to develop new technologies, improve existing products, lead communication with academic society and customers and partners, present ideas and projects to Eaton business leaders. A combination of technical knowledge, laboratory experience and communication skills are desired to be successful in this role.

The selected candidate will be working with engineering teams located in both Roztoky near Prague, Czech Republic and globally.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop projects in the area of DC power, power distribution, smart grids, microgrids as expert, technical leader and team member in technology.

  • Create innovative concepts for control and protecting of DC power distribution including strategies for coordination and communication for use in electrical and industrial applications.

  • Cover activities in all technology development phases: research, modeling, and simulation using HIL platforms, software implementation, arranging of validation tests and prototype development and testing.

  • Collaborate on innovation and commercialization of technologies, communicate with research institutions, customers, and business partners.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • MS or Ph.D. degree in field of power engineering, power systems, power conversion, power electronics

  • Experience with laboratory measurement and test arrangement (such as oscilloscopes, DAQ, etc.)

  • Experience in power distribution and power system simulation tools (for example PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink, EMTP/ETAP, etc.)

  • Experience with industrial communication protocols (for example CAN, Ethernet, Modbus, etc.)

  • Fluent English communication and presentation skills

  • Experience in industrial or business environment, new products development, value proposition formulation

Preferred Specialized Knowledge:

  • Experience with system integration and power distribution systems design, analysis and protection

  • Experience with hardware-in-the-loop simulation systems, such as OPAL RT, DSPACE

  • Experience with power electronics (AC/DC, DC/DC converters, and DC/AC inverters)

  • Experience with industrial automation, electric drives and controls

  • Experience with power system analysis (example: load flow analysis – ETAP, CYME)
