Structural/Civil (Wind) Engineer We are currently looking for a new colleague for Structural/civil (wind) Engineer, a role within our Impact Forecasting team, subsidiary of Aon Benfield, based in Prague office.
The Global Impact Forecasting team of 90 members based in 5 offices around the world (Prague, London, Chicago, Singapore and Bangalore) consists of scientists and software developers dedicated to developing catastrophe models and risk management solutions for various natural and man-made perils including Wind storm, Flood, Earthquake, Terrorism and other.
As an Engineer some of your key responsibilities will involve:
Technical development of the damage/vulnerability component of the assigned projects, starting with the European wind catastrophe model
Managing the collection process of loss data from various Insurance and Reinsurance companies, necessary to calibrate the damage component of the European Windstorm Catastrophe model
Coordinating activities (including technical work) linked with wind damage assessment
Communicating with various parts involved in the project, including: clients, team members in different offices and academic bodies
Representing the company at commercial, academic and marketing events
Educating other members of the team in new, alternative techniques on damage modelling
Developing and testing ideas that could improve the performance of the vulnerability component of the European Windstorm Catastrophe model
To apply for this offer, you should have:
Educational background in civil /structural engineering or a related quantitative subject, at the Masters or PhD level (or equivalent)
Strong computing and analytical skills, including programming for modelling engineering problems, data manipulation and analysis (Matlab, Python, R)
Working knowledge and understanding of Building Design Standards
Knowledge of vulnerability assessment methods and tools to develop damage / vulnerability curves
Knowledge of various statistical methods for data analysis
Strong presentational skills, with focus on simplifying complex concepts
Knowledge of probability theory and statistics in the context of structural engineering
Knowledge of Wind structural engineering
Previous Research background
Previous experience in developing catastrophe models or any other contact with catastrophe modelling for the insurance industry is advantageous
We’re looking for an individual who is able to pick up things quickly following a sharp learning curve with good planning skills and the ability to work independently. Should be innovative, enthusiastic, hardworking and have good communication skills.
